Clinical Psychology for Adults

Many adults seek psychological support during periods of stress, anxiety, overwhelm or emotional difficulty. Sometimes this may be linked to a recent life event or crisis, while for others it may reflect patterns that have developed gradually over time or difficulties rooted in earlier life experiences, relationships or environments.  Early experiences can shape patterns of anxiety, self-esteem, emotional regulation and relationships well into adulthood. Emotional difficulties can also affect the body and nervous system, contributing to symptoms such as fatigue, tension, poor sleep, overwhelm or feeling constantly ‘on edge’. Therapy can help individuals better understand these responses and develop greater emotional and physiological regulation. Therapy can provide an opportunity to explore these patterns safely and compassionately, while developing new ways of understanding and responding to them.

Dr Anouk Houdijk is a Clinical Psychologist experienced in supporting adults with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. She provides compassionate, evidence-based therapy tailored to the unique needs, experiences and goals of each individual.

Adults may seek support for difficulties including:
  • anxiety and excessive worry,
  • panic attacks,
  • stress and burnout,
  • trauma and PTSD,
  • childhood trauma and early life experiences,
  • emotional regulation difficulties,
  • OCD and intrusive thoughts,
  • self-criticism and low self-esteem,
  • relationship difficulties,
  • life transitions,
  • chronic stress,
  • or feeling stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected.

Dr Houdijk recognises that emotional difficulties are often shaped by a combination of life experiences, relationships, nervous system responses and patterns developed over time. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to better understand these experiences, process difficult emotions and develop healthier ways of coping and relating.

Her therapeutic approach integrates a range of evidence-based models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR and trauma-informed approaches.
Alongside symptom reduction, therapy may also focus on increasing self-understanding, strengthening emotional resilience, improving relationships and reconnecting with a greater sense of meaning, balance and wellbeing.
Sessions are collaborative, compassionate and tailored to each individual’s needs
